So I'm going to be a little awkward and talk about the financial details, in the hopes of encouraging other families who are considering adoption themselves.
The "deets" so far:
FUNDRAISING
You are SO GENEROUS! The donations have come in different amounts. I mean it when I say no amount is too small. It adds up!
I've been cross-stitching and working on my etsy shop to raise money.
We've also been working on getting our grant application together. We can't submit it until our home study is complete, so we have some time to get it all together.
We're also going back and forth about this fundraising meal we want to host: we're thinking end of December or early January and can't decide whether we should do a dinner or a breakfast. I am leaning toward a breakfast because I think families with children (or really anyone) is more likely to be free for breakfast on a Saturday than dinner. We are needing to find a place to host the pancake dinner. Thoughts?
FINANCES
We're working with one agency (LDS Social Services): We will be giving them our application shortly. I am still waiting on a letter from my infertility Doctor. Once we hand that in we need to pay $1000 application fee; after our fee is paid then we will be emailed a username and password allowing us to access Bluestep and complete the three online phases.
Every year we are waiting for our child to be placed in our home it is a $300 to get another home study done.
Child placement fee is 10% of our combined annual income. The minimum placement fee is $4,000 and the maximum placement fee is $10,000. Thankfully the $1000 application fee will be deducted from the placement fee.
Legal fees and cost we will need to pay for our own attorney.
Anywhere between $700-$1000.
Pre-adoption training will be $129 per person
Court fees, fees for required documents, birth certificate, travel expenses (if birth mother is out of state), etc.
So we are thinking the total will be around 10,000 (depending if we need to travel out of state)
